1. Introduction A precondition for trouble-free operation is the observation of the regulations and tips given here. Nonobservation invalidates all claims under guarantee. Assembly, starting operation and maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified specialists in compliance with • these instructions • all other operating instructions pertinent to the drive • existing valid national/regional rules (safety/prevention of accidents). If the specified demands are not complied with, live and rotating parts of the drive can cause serious or fatal injuries. Safety measures: In accordance with the law dating from 24th June 1986 on technical tools, the operator must provide safe-guards that rotating parts cannot be touched accidentally.

3. Mounting the gear unit 3.1. Preliminary remarks The gear unit may only be mounted if the following requirements are met: • The indications on the name plates of both the gear unit and the motor have to correspond to the values (voltage, frequency, torque, output speed, reduction ratio) agreed on in the contract • The gear unit must not show any damage • Ambient temperature: – 10°C to 30 °C • The installation location must be free of chemicals, acids, gases, etc. • The mounting position of the gear unit must match the data on the name plate. Lubrication and gear version were adapted to this mounting position. • The screw plugs for checking the oil level, for draining the oil and for ventilation must be freely accessible.

2. Gear unit delivery 2.1. Delivery state Check the products delivered immediately upon receipt for transport damage. Advise the forwarding company or the customer service of GFC AntriebsSysteme GmbH of any defects. Before dispatch, each gear unit is submitted to a test run. During the warranty period, gear units may only be opened with prior consent of the manufacturer, otherwise any warranty claim will be void.

3.2. Removing the protective agent Before assembly, remove the corrosion protection agent from the uncoated parts. To achieve this, commercial cleaning agents can be used. To prevent the radial seals from being damaged, ensure that they do not come into contact with the cleaning agent. • Due to danger of explosion, open fire is not permitted. • Sufficient ventilation must be provided when removing the protective agent.

2.2. Protection Protection of the internal parts of the gear unit: • Gear unit filled with oil ⇒ Sufficient for 36 months • Gear unit without oil filling ⇒ Sufficient for 12 months Protection of the outer gear unit parts: • Uncoated parts ⇒ Sufficient for 6 months • External coating ⇒ 2-component coating based on polyurethane Damage to the coating of the outer gear unit parts leads to failure of the corrosion protection and has to be touched up immediately. The protection periods start immediately after the receipt of the gear unit.

3.3. Base / machine frame The gear unit is to be fitted on an even, vibration absorbing and rigid base. The base must be designed for the weights and torques so that no additional loads resulting from distortion or twisting can act on the gear unit. Use screws with the strength class in accordance with the indication in the catalogue to mount the gear unit on the base. Ensure that the screw diameter is selected in accordance with the through holes on the gear unit.

3.4. Replacing the screw plugs If the vent screw plug is not fitted it has to be screwed into the housing according to the mounting position. Before commissioning, check the oil level specified for the design (refer to section 6.3)

2.3. Transport and storage Use suitable ropes, hooks and lifting devices (eyebolts or supporting hooks) with appropriate load bearing capacity when transporting the gear units. • Transport gear units with great care. This is necessary to prevent injuries and property damage. • The gear units may only be stored in closed rooms and on level surfaces. • The gear units must not be stacked on top of each other. • It must be ensured that the gear units are protected from direct sunlight and from damage caused by impact shocks, rising damp or vibrations during storage. • The relative humidity must not exceed 70 %. • Gears with ventilators may not be transported by attaching lifting devices to the protective cap. The storage time is limited by the periods specified in section 2.3. Correct re-application of the protective agent can extend the storage period.

4. Assembly 4.1. General instructions • Deviating ambient temperatures are not permitted, please contact GFC AntriebsSysteme GmbH. • Safe operation can be ensured when observing the specifications on the name plate. • The gear unit or the gear unit motor must not be exposed to heat accumulation and waste heat from other devices.

4.2. Gear units with exposed shaft ends • The shafts must be aligned very carefully to ensure safe working conditions and silent operation. • Do not under any circumstances attempt to mount by striking with a hammer as this would cause damage to the tooth profiles, roller bearings, housing, and shaft. • Consideration must be given to the permissible radial forces at the input shaft and output shaft ends when using rigid coupling units and elements which generate radial force, such as pulleys, toothed wheels, etc. The drive and output elements can be mounted by means of a fitting tool or by heating the appropriate part.
